Yup. That’s right. I got older. And in order to mark this occasion with as self-servingly as possible, I thought it best to blog about everybody’s favourite niche – birthdays… alright, maybe not everybody’s, but you get the idea.
I believe that a birthday is a wonderful thing because for one day and one day only, I’m able to make my friends do whatever it is I want – and with the help of modern marketers, my options for how I achieve this are growing by the year. These people should be applauded for their efforts in making it that much easier for all of us to celebrate our special days. Here’s only a small sample of some little sites and services to make your special day so much more enjoyable… or obnoxious. Your call.
For instance, I could begin my planning by sending out an evite to all of my friends to let them know everything they need to about how to commemorate my most special of days. Of course, there’s also any number of services to treat them to a fun and memorable theme once they arrive. When it comes time to blow out the candles, there’s even a solution for those of you who are loathe to finding a little wax on their chocolate cake! Of course, if I’m not creative enough to think up my own party ideas, there’s even people willing to help with that too!
On the flip side, if I was the type who was always forgetting birthdays (but loved to celebrate them) then I might consider subscribing to Birthday Alarm, or perhaps the World Birthday Web.
Yes, clearly marketers have not missed the boat when it comes to catering to that one day a year when most people actually even consider having a get together. And with all these amazing tools at our disposal to ease into the planning, prep and execution of (again, almost) everyone’s favourite niches, and make it a magical affair, it’s strange that somehow, every year so many of us just wind up drunk.
Happy birthday everybody!
